DC DC Step Down Power Module 5-16V To 1.25V/1.5V/1.8V/2.5V/3.3V/5V Universal Adjustable Buck Voltage Converter Board 3A For LCD (WHL #77)

Just a brief service tweet announcement for today, no in-depth review of the thing – these super helpful, small and cheap “CA-1235” DC-DC buck converters, commonly available for 50 cents a pop (plus postage), do use a Monolithic Power MP1495 TSOT-23-8 control chip labelled “IACSE” – or a clone thereof. While that connection is not immediately obvious and not mentioned by MPS (it says chip labelling “ACS”), teh Googles knows about this and leads to a suitable datasheet. Some variants of the chip itself are not recommended for new designs, but of course there’s still a lot of stock and probably clones available out there, even Mouser lists a couple of original parts with hundreds of units available. 12V Portable Auto Car Jump Starter Power Bank Booster Battery Charger 50800mAh (WHL #54)

Some random power bank, we haven’t had those for quite some time now, have we…

This heap of trash actually came from eBay, which nowadays rarely has the best offers for China-shopping. I bought this back in December 2018 for 22.99€ including shipping, and as far as I can recall, I arrived so quickly that it must have been sent from an European warehouse.

The reason for buying a “jump starter” type of power bank was that at the time I had some project running that needed a ~12V supply. In the end, we decided for a different solution, but a 3S lithium cell configuration would have done the job. […]

Bosch Professional GAA 18V-24 USB charging adapter 1600A00J61 1600A00J5W (WHL #49)

Something out of the ordinary for today, a brand new item, bought for disassembly and kind-of off-label use. A Bosch Professional USB charger which happens to have a 12V port also…

Contrary to my very first thought when I found this charger, it does NOT allow 18V batteries to be charged from USB or a 12V source. Maybe I should test that, but I doubt it. However, it does convert the other way – stick in a 18V power tool battery (ranging from 1.5Ah to 12Ah as of today) and get a USB charger with a lot of oomph, or a “heated jacked” power source with a lot of potential for baggy pockets. 24V to 5V 10A 50W DC DC Converter Regulator Car Step Down Reducer 24V to 5V 10AMP Daygreen CE Certificated (WHL #46)

Alright, part two of the DC-DC converter tests that’ll lead to a small project. This time we got a 5V/10A converter from Daygreen, model number B10-1224-05, shipped together with the 12V/10A unit from WHL #44. This item was 2.41€ excluding shipping, as described in that blog post.

It’s a brick style unit as well, a tad smaller, but also has two mounting holes left and right which are flush with the case. Contrary to the more powerful 12V one, this is only a plastic case that was potted, but it has four screw terminals and therefore offers more flexibility when it comes to attaching your own wiring. 24V to 12V 5A 10A 120W DC DC Converter Step Down Daygreen 1A 2A 3A 6A 8A Voltage Regulator Newest Type CE, 10,000pcs in Stock (WHL #44)

[Just updated to WordPress 5.0 – slight errors in the Matrix might occur]

Overengineered parts from China aren’t really my cup of tea, but this is for an upcoming project with power-hungry, rotating AND rusty plates, so I figured I would use something up for the task…

…and I don’t think I paid that much of a premium for it. So today’s item is a step-down converter model “D121” rated 10 amps at 12V, with 15-32V input voltage. Price was 2.86€ at the time; contrary to the usual item on this site, this was without shipping cost. […]
